This "Test for Success" program targets Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) and faculty who teach in the BScN program at York University. To address the well-documented low pass rates in the Canadian Registered Nurse Examination (CRNE) this project will address student, teacher, and curriculum issues.
Throughout the BScN program, in the classroom and online, students will be provided with test taking, cognitive, and anxiety reducing confidence building strategies. Faculty who teach IENs will develop expertise in multiple-choice item construction and analysis through workshops and online programs.
The goals of the project will be to:
- Increase knowledge and skills in test-taking
- Improve test taking scores over 20 months
- Decrease test anxiety
- Increase confidence in test-taking
- Achieve higher success rate on CRNEs
- Increase IENs in the Canadian Healthcare Workforce
- Increase knowledge and skill in multiple-choice item writing at a higher cognitive level
- Increase knowledge in test analyses
- Achieve satisfaction with the “Test for Success” program
