Test for Success
This "Test for Success" program targets Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) and faculty who teach in the BScN program at York University. To address the well-documented low pass rates in the Canadian Registered Nurse Examination (CRNE) this project will address student, teacher, and curriculum issues.
Throughout the BScN program, in the classroom and online, students will be provided with test taking, cognitive, and anxiety reducing confidence building strategies. Faculty who teach IENs will develop expertise in multiple-choice item construction and analysis through workshops and online programs.
Current and new course/program multiple-choice questions will be matched with Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) competencies and placed in database. This project main objective is to increase IEN success rates on the CRNE therefore providing them a bridge to becoming a Registered Nurse in Ontario. This model may translate to other Canadian IEN nursing and international healthcare programs that require exam for licensure.
The expected outcomes of the project will include the following: All IEN students enrolled in York’s BScN program over 3 years (N=135)

- Increased knowledge and skills in test-taking
- Improvement in test taking scores over 20 months
- Decreased test anxiety
